Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance” message appears when you try to open your website while manually updating WordPress core files/themes/plugins.
During the maintenance process, WordPress creates a new file called .maintenance in the root directory of your website. Due to this file, the “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance” message appears on the dashboard.
This is not a big issue because this message is self destructing in nature and after updating the WordPress version/Theme/Plugin, .maintenance file is automatically removed from the root directory.
Generally it takes 5 – 30 minutes to get the file deleted automatically. As far as I know, WordPress says it takes maximum 30 minutes to disappear the “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance” message.
