What is an Email ID/ address?
An email ID or address serves as the identifier for electronic mail, commonly known as email, sent over the internet. Just like physical mail, emails need addresses for both the sender and recipient. Since the 1980s, all email addresses have followed a consistent format: a unique name followed by @ and the domain name.
How to find my email address if I have not logged in to any device
There are a few methods to locate your email address if you haven’t logged in on any device. One way requires access to the device where you last logged in. Using that device, check the History section; your email address might be stored there.
If you don’t have access to the last device used, you can recover your email address through the email service’s recovery option. Here’s how you can do it for Microsoft and Gmail accounts.
Via Microsoft Recovery
- Access the Microsoft email recovery page.
- Provide either the phone number linked to your Microsoft account or an alternate email address, then click Next.
- Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) you receive to initiate the account recovery process.
Via Google Recovery
- Access the Find Your Email page.
- Enter either the phone number linked to your Gmail account or your recovery email address, then click Next.
- Provide your First and Last name on the following page and click Next.
- Proceed by clicking Next on the Get a Verification Code page.
- Enter the 6-digit code you receive to begin your account recovery process.
Via iCloud Recovery
- Access the iCloud email recovery page.
- Enter your First and Last name on one page and your email address on the subsequent page, then click Continue. If you don’t recall your email address, your phone number can be used as an alternative.
- The recovery process will start. Follow the instructions on the screen to regain access to your account.
How to find your email ID via logged in devices
If you have multiple email IDs or have forgotten one, these steps can help you retrieve them. Whether you’re using a mobile phone or a laptop/PC, the steps to find your email IDs will remain consistent.
Compose email
Here are steps to find your email address for various services like Gmail, Outlook, AOL, Hotmail, Yandex Mail, ProtonMail, Zoho Mail, and more:
Note: These instructions are general and should apply to most email services.
- Click on “Compose,” “Start New Mail,” or a similar button to create a new email.
- Look for the “From” section located above the “To” field; this section displays your/sender’s email address.
- If the “From” option isn’t visible by default, search for the More (…) option. Inside this, you may find a “Show From” option. Click on it to reveal your email address.
Use Echo service
When you’re at an Echo point or a tunnel, the sound echoes without any changes. Echo services online work similarly. To use one provided by Vienna University Computer Center, follow these steps:
- Compose a new email in your email service.
- Address the email to: echo@univie.ac.at in the “To” field.
- Click “Send” without entering a Subject or any message.
- Shortly after, you’ll receive an email titled: “Automatic Response from echo@univie.ac.at.”
- Open this email to find your email address in the “To” section.
Check the email app or browser
If you couldn’t find your email address using the earlier method, here’s another way to locate it within your email app or browser, specifically for Gmail:
In the Gmail app:
- Open the Gmail app.
- Click on your Profile Picture at the top right corner.
- Your email address will appear in the drop-down menu.
In Chrome:
- Open a new Chrome tab.
- Click on your Profile Picture at the top right corner of the screen.
- You’ll be able to see all Gmail email addresses logged into your device.
Via Mail app on your Windows PC/ laptop
To locate your Outlook email address using Mail for Windows, here’s what you can do:
- Open the Mail app on your Windows PC/Laptop.
- Click on the Hamburger menu.
- Then, select Accounts to view your email address. If you have multiple accounts logged in, try this:
- Click on “Compose,” “Start New Mail,” or a similar button to create a new email.
- Look for the “From” section above the “To” field; it displays your/sender’s email address.
